Help and frequently asked questions.

How to start, how the rules work and what to do when something will not open. Plain words, no jargon.

Getting started

  1. Connect your own VPN. Already have a VPN (NordVPN, Mullvad, Proton, Amnezia or your own server)? Import its configuration — a WireGuard/OpenVPN file or a QR code. No VPN yet — we will help you pick one.
  2. The app sorts the traffic. YouTube, Instagram, X — through your VPN; banks, government services, delivery — straight out. Automatically, no manual switching. A ready-made rule set applies in one tap.
  3. Change the rules whenever you like. Any app or site can be set to VPN / direct / Tor / blocked — on the Rules tab. Rules are stored on the device.

The app ships soon — status and links on the Download page. The principle in detail — under How it works.

Frequently asked questions

Is this yet another VPN service?

No. Smart VPN Router is a layer on top of your VPN: it decides which apps need the tunnel and which do not. We run no VPN servers of our own and cannot see your traffic.

Does it work in Russia?

Yes. Blocked services go through your VPN (including obfuscated AmneziaWG where plain WireGuard is throttled), while banks and government portals go direct so sign-in does not break. Full on-device AmneziaWG circumvention arrives in v1.2.

Do I need my own VPN?

Yes — the app works on top of your VPN configuration (WireGuard or OpenVPN from any provider, or your own VPS). If you have none, the Find-a-VPN page helps you choose.

Do you keep logs? Is it safe?

Routing rules are stored on your device, not on our servers. We cannot see or record your traffic. No domain telemetry.

How much does it cost?

There is a free tier (up to 5 apps and 5 sites) and Pro (unlimited rules, iCloud sync, Apple Watch) — from 100 ₽/mo. The free-tier terms are locked to you at first launch. Details on the Pricing page.

Ozon, Wildberries or Avito complain about a VPN — will this help?

Yes. Marketplaces have started noticing VPNs and may limit access or prices. With smart routing Ozon, Wildberries and Avito go direct — to them you are an ordinary shopper without a VPN.

WhatsApp and Telegram calls chew the audio under a VPN. What changes?

When the whole phone sits in the tunnel, a call gets a long, congested route. Here only what needs the VPN uses it — calls take the ordinary path and the audio does not suffer.

When does the app come out?

Android (installed straight from the site) and Windows come first — both are in testing now. iPhone/iPad follow via the App Store. Current status is on the Download page.

If something does not work

The bank or a government portal will not open

Under a VPN, Russian banks often block sign-in. Put the bank and government services on the direct route — the protect-banking guide does it in one tap. How to protect banking.

A blocked site will not load

That means it is going direct. Add it to the rules as via-VPN — and it will take the tunnel. The app can pick up new domains automatically. How the rules work.

The network cuts the VPN entirely

On harsh networks obfuscation helps (AmneziaWG) — the traffic looks ordinary. Import an AmneziaWG config; full on-device circumvention arrives in v1.2. About AmneziaWG.
